It would not be stretching the truth to say Trish Bruxvoort Colligan's new music album, "Wild Acre," was born in a barn. In fact, it was recorded at the Amish-built barn at Seed Savers Exchange in Decorah.
The roots-folk artist from Strawberry Point wanted an organic approach. Says Colligan, "Playing in the barn, with all the wind and birdsong, we realized the music was a bit out of our control. It was wonderful."
In addition to getting help from Seed Savers, Colligan got help from the Pepperfield Project, which provided meals and lodging for the musicians; Mabe's, which threw a pizza party; and a group of Decorah musicians, who made up the choir for two of the album's songs.
The record release party will be held May 3rd at Seed Savers Exchange in the very barn where the album was born. Seed Savers is selling tickets to the event, which includes a garden party with appetizers and drinks at 5:00 p.m. and the barn concert at 6:00 p.m..
"This music seems at home in a barn," Trish says.
