The Northeast Iowa Community College Office of Disability Services will be sponsoring "Abilities Awareness Week" this Monday through Friday at the NICC Calmar campus. The observance is being held to promote awareness of persons with disabilities and to provide a forum for NICC students with disabilities to share their life and learning experiences.
Activities during the week include:
Monday, March 31st 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. at the Student Center fireplace area; Patrick Harnish, keynote speaker will discuss "Signs of Christ," American Sign Language, singing to inspirational music
11:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. at room 109 of the NICC Student Center, Veteran's Conversation Panel, led by Linzy Martin, NICC faculty. Student veteran panelists include Chuck Olliney, Paul Reicks, Rosa Zamora, Robert Zamora and David Funk. The panelists are members of Vet2Vet, a student driven organization that assists veterans who are discharged, still serving in active duty or are members of the national guard and reserves.
Tuesday, April 1st
11:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. at room 109 of the Student Center, Iowa Department for the Blind, interactive presentation and white cane activity
Wednesday, April 2nd
10:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. at the Student Center Commons Area; Disability services organizations, provider fair
11:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. at room 109 of the Student Center; Family Alliance for Veterans of America (FAVA) presenting Battle Buddy Program, service dog access
Thursday, April 3rd
11:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. at the Student Center fireplace area; NICC counselor Randi Burns will discuss eating disorders and self-injury
