The latest population estimates have been released by the U.S. Census Bureau.

The federal agency is estimating Winneshiek County's current population at 20,994 people.  That's a drop of 67 people from the 2012 population estimate.

Winneshiek County actually did better than many other rural counties in Iowa.  Nearly two thirds of Iowa counties lost population last year, according to the U.S. Census Bureau, and Allamakee, Howard, Clayton and Fayette Counties have all lost more population since 2010 than Winneshiek County has, according the the Census Bureau figures.
