Technology is changing the way we receive weather alerts

Tuesday is the second day of Severe Weather Awareness Week in Iowa.

Emergency government officials are concentrating today on educating the public about the numerous means available to get current weather and emergency information.

Websites allow readers to access live radar images.  The Iowa Department of Transportation's website offers real-time information on current road conditions.  Local radio and television stations provide information over the air and through smart phone text alerts.

Another way to keep informed about the weather is through buying a National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Weather Radio.  The radios not only provide current weather information and emergency alerts, but they can be programmed so that you receive only the alerts for your county or specific counties.
