3rd through 6th graders take the reading challenge

Third through sixth graders from Decorah, North Winneshiek and St. Benedict's School are celebrating their completion of a 20-week program designed to encourage them to read books.

"The Reading Games" involved 210 students spliot into 39 teams.  Beginning after Thanksgiving, those teams each read a total of 20 books.  Volunteer coaches met with the kids throughout the process to discuss the books and to make sure the groups stayed on task.

This week the kids and their coaches gathered at Decorah Middle School and Carrie Lee School for a celebration.  The top three teams were recognized, but members of all 39 teams received prizes to mark their completing the program.
