The Decorah High School Mock Trial team was successful Tuesday at the District Mock Trial competition in Waterloo.
Decorah sent two teams to the District Meet--a varsity team and a team of mostly freshmen and sophomores.
"Team Groehler" won the regional with a record of 4-0, and is moving on to the State Tournament next Wednesday through Friday at Veterans Auditorium in Des Moines. Katie Perez, Naomi Davidson and Brianna Doyle will be part of the state tournament team, as Simon Cropp and Drew Sullivan will not be able to attend next week.
"Team Keune" finished with a record of 2-2, losing two ballots to Cedar Rapids Washington High School, who finished as runner up. Third place was a team from Waverly-Shell Rock.
The team names are a tip of the hat to Janelle Keune Groehler, who coached the teams for the last several years.
The Viking team was coached by Ron Fadness. Barrett Gipp assisted by judging an intra-squad scrimmage. Sue Sander and Sue Doyle helped prepare case materials for the regional tournament. The high school mock trial program is sponsored by the Iowa State Bar Association.
