Training for a triathlon can be a solitary process. Long bike rides, long runs and laps in a swimming pool are much better when you have the support of other people to motivate you.
That's the theory behind a new organization in Decorah called "Peak 3D Tri Club," an organization of triathlon enthusiasts that have banded together to support one another in their training. Organizers Josh Giddings, Jeremy Thompson, Allie Bachelder and Laree Schouweiler say it's a way to provide the tools, resources and support to help members achieve their goals.
"Decorah has all the elements" to attract people interested in triathlons, with plenty of trails for biking and running and the Luther pool for swimming. But, notes Giddings, "you need motivation," and that's where they hope the Peak 3D Tri Club can come in.
There are numerous triathlons in Iowa and the Midwest, including the Hy Vee Triathlon, which will be held August 31st in Des Moines.
But before you can compete in an event like that, you need to train. The organizers of the Peak 3D Tri Club are making plans to help area triathlon competitors by scheduling several events. They include an April 6th appearance in Decorah by International Triathlon Union World Champion J.J. Bailey. You can learn more about that event by visiting the club's Facebook page, https://www.facebook.com/peak3dtriclub. You can also get information about membership in the club--it's $30 a year for a signle membership and $50 a year for a family membership, with members qualifying for discounts from area businesses.
