25 student members of the Decorah Middle School Band Department participated in the 20th Annual Tri-State Middle School Honor Band.

Decorah music teacher Liz Fritz originated the festival in 1994 to create an exceptional opportunity for DMS students to participate in an honor band.  As this was the 20th annual event, three original compositions were commissioned to commemorate the event.  Dr. Michael Golemo, Iowa State University Director of Bands, composed an original work entitled "Say What?!"  Oconomowoc, Wisconsin musician Rick Kirby composed two original works entitled "Through the Eyes of the Dragon" and "The Legend of Tizona".

Following a full day of rehearsals at Decorah High School, the students presented a Grand Finale Concert in the DHS auditorium.  Guest conductors for the event were Rick Kirby and JDecorah High School Director of Bands Jim Fritz
