The National Weather Service says the chance of flooding along the Upper Iowa River this spring is normal or slightly below normal.
That's despite a winter that saw heavy snows. But the NWS says the risk of flooding along both the Upper Iowa River and the Turkey River is slightly below normal.
Now, for some disclaimers! Frost is much deeper in the ground than normal, meaning the risk of "enhanced runoff" by any spring rainfall will be higher. Finally, ice is also thicker than normal, which means the chance of ice jams on rivers and creeks is higher than normal, which would lead to flooding.
