Radio Shack announced plan Tuesday to close 1,100 of its stores as part of an announcement that it had a net loss of over $191 million in the previous quarter.
But the moves are affecting corporately-owned stores--NOT the 900 stores operated by franchisees. That includes the Radio Shack store in Decorah, which is owned by Decorah businessman Ryan Christensen.
Christensen tells decorahnews.com, "We believe that the desire to shop locally and the loyalty of our customers are reasons that we are still here." He says his store has been successful because of "something that is harder to find from a big box store or a faceless online retailer--great customer service and knowledge about our products."
Christensen says the Decorah Radio Shack will continue to evolve and change with Radio Shack's new ideas and concepts. He concludes, "We hope that customers will continue to or start to choose us as a store where they know they can get what they want at a great price and can learn how to use it."
