No, you weren't imagining it. February of 2014 was one cold month!
Decorah weather observer Richard Bernatz says 23 out of 28 days in February had high temperatures that were below the average for that day--and 24 out of 28 days had low temperatures that were below the average for that day.
Bernatz says February had an average daily temperature of 7.6 degrees--12.3 degrees colder than normal. The average low temperature was 4.6 degrees below zero. The temperature hit 26 below zero on the 11th and set an all-time record on the 28th when it hit 16 below zero.
February snowfall totaled 10 inches--three inches more than average. That included a four inch snowfall on the 17th.
So February 2014 will go into the books as very, very cold and also very snowy.
