The Porter House Museum is hosting a talk at 7:30 p.m. Thursday by Decorah historian and historic architecture expert Elizabeth Lorentzen.
Lorentzen is an art teacher at Decorah High School and a member of the Winneshiek County Historic Preservation Commission. She frequently leads tours of Decorah's historic architecture, and is the editor of Vera Harris' Old Decorah Houses and Their Stories.
Lorentzen's "Armchair Tour" of Decorah's historic architecture will include a number of stories about the former inhabitants of these homes. Her presentation is the first in the Porter House Museum's new 2014 Lecture Series. Dr. David Faldet of Luther College will continue the series on March 13th by investigating early photographs of the Upper Iowa River. The series will conclude on March 27th with Port House Museum Collections Manager Emily Mineart's program about historic scrapbooks.
All talks will be free and open to the public. They will take place in the museum's historic Music Parlor. Seating is limited, so seats are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
The lecture series is sponsored by Peg Wright, Betty R. Nelson, and David and Kathy Bakken.
