Luther search committee names its choice for President

Posted: Tue, Feb 25, 2014 6:22 AM

A Luther College search committee has selected the person it wants to be the 10th President of the college.

Dr. Paula J. Carlson is currently vice president for mission at St. Olaf College.   Her recent responsibilities have included the college's current strategic plan and an initiative to enhance professional development opportunities for staff and faculty, as well as an initiative to expand the college's programs and services for students as they discern their vocations and prepare for their careers.  She led the successful re-accreditation process, 2009-13, in which St. Olaf was one of 14 colleges and universities invited to participate in the Higher Learning Commission's demonstration project to develop a new model for accreditation.

Carlson will visit the Luther campus on Thursday.   The Board of Regents will convene a special meeting on Friday to vote on her nomination.  If the Board of Regents approves Carlson's nomination, the college will schedule a formal welcoming ceremony some time in the future.
