The Decorah Municipal Swimming Pool needs some expensive repairs, according to figures presented to members of the Decorah Parks & Recreation Board.
A new slide at the pool would cost an estimated $250,000. Park-Rec Director Andy Nimrod says Park-Rec board members know that raising money for a new slide is a "fun" item—but they want to make sure enough money is raised for the less glamorous—but just as necessary—repairs. Those repairs include replacing the boiler, updating the mechanical system, fixing leaks in the roof and fixing foundation issues.
Decorah Parks and Recreation Board members have set aside $115,000 from previous park-rec budgets as a reserve fund. But that won't be nearly enough money to pay for all the necessary improvements. Nimrod says fundraising for the new slide and needed repairs will likely start some time this summer.
