Decorah will be named "River Town of the Year" next month by Iowa Rivers Revival, a statewide river education and advocacy organization which works to protect and enhance Iowa's streams and rivers.
A ceremony will be held at 11:00 a.m. next Friday, March 7th, in Peace Dining Room at Luther College to present the award. The annual "River Town of the Year Award" recognizes an Iowa town or city for outstanding efforts to reclaim river-fronts as anchors for economic development, recreation, and good ecological practices. Cities are invited to apply for the award, or citizens may nominate their town.
A news release by Iowa Rivers Revival said, "The vision and efforts of Decorah officials and citizens have done much to enhance the city's connections with the Upper Iowa River. Decorah's accomplishments and ongoing efforts will be admired, discussed, and emulated by other Iowa river towns for a long time to come."
