Although it seems like we have had lots of snow days, the Decorah Schools are doing pretty well. As of Thursday the snow days have only pushed the school calendar out thee more days, until Wednesday, May 28.
Superintendent Mike Haluska says we have been fortunate to have a number of early dismissals and late starts that have counted toward needed days. Some districts within the state are well into June for closing day.
It is just this kind of year that makes the decision of whether to count hours or days toward state requirements an important one. School officials are looking for further guidance from the state regarding their options for next year.
