36 Decorah High School students have been recognized for their performances in a math competition
The High School Mathematical Contest in Modeling gives student teams 36 hours to use mathematics to find a solution to a real-world modeling problem and write up their solution.
Two teams were designated as Meritorious: the team of Laurel Zweibohmer, Tyler Peterson, Jacob Stock, and Brad Suhr and the team of Gable Lonning, Paul Fadness, Steven Holkesvik and Parker Fretheim.
Three teams received Honorable Mentions: the team of Andrew Strand, Brady Dawley, Patrick Murphy and Riley Rue; the team of CJ Cliff, Kieran Okerstrom, Clara Kittleson and Ian Wold; and the team of Ervin Yahr III, Gabrielle Bruns, Courtney Robinson and Amanda Taylor.
Four teams were designated as "Successful Participants": the team of Tess Olinger, Shelby Stalberger, Laura Munkel and Teressa Lundtvedt; the team of Naomi Davidson, Leah Davis, Gara Lonning and Shai Shay; the team of Eric Syverson, Thomas Pecinovsky, Gabriel Varney and Brett LaRue; and the team of Caleb Ulring, Isaac Marquardt, Simon Cropp, and Karl Sand.
This was the third year Decorah High School participated in the HiMCM.
Students were supervised by Allysen Lovstuen and Shannon Horton.
