Flu season hasn't been as extreme as in years past

Winneshiek Medical Center last year had a spike in admissions during the winter months because of people suffering from extreme cases of the flu.  That hasn't been the case so much this winter, says WMC Chief Nursing Officer Linda Klimesh.

Klimesh told members of the hospital's Board of Trustees on Wednesday, "We didn't see the severity (of flu cases)" this winter.  That's despite the fact that the flu is still affecting people in NE Iowa, says Klimesh.

But people who have gotten the flu, for the most part, haven't gotten quite as sick as they did last winter.

Klimesh says the flu vaccinations seem to be working--and she reminds the public that the hospital still has vaccine available.
