Decorah School Board tables issue of early retirement for classified staff

The Decorah School Board has tabled the discussion, and possible action, regarding a plan to offer an early retirement program to classified staff. Although such early retirement programs have been offered in the past for classified staff, it has not been done in recent history. The program would have only included salary incentives, and not other benefits as recently done with teachers.

Discussion centered on the motivation of such plans – money saving for the district. After some discussion it was not clear that the plan would actually save money. The board decided to table the issue and do some more research, as well as wait for the presence of a full board (one member was absent).
