Two Carrie Lee students have received special honors from the Art Educators of Iowa Youth Art Month selection committee.
Fourth grader August Witt is among three Iowa students chosen to represent the state at the National Art Education Conference in San Diego, California this spring. His work will hang in the NAEA exhibit along with those of students from all over the United States.
Fourth grader Grace Gerleman won a spot in the Governor's Show at the Iowa Youth Art Month exhibit. Grace's work will hang in the Governor's office throughout the month of March.
Other Carrie Lee students whose artwork will be on display among 252 pieces at the State Youth Art Month exhibit in Des Moines, include Jacob Pipho, fourth grade, Jackson Knoke, third grade, Megan Roe, third grade, and Morgan Eggert, third grade. All six students, along with their families and art teacher, Carol Gaustad, are invited to attend a special reception and awards ceremony on Saturday, March 1st, at the State Historical Building in Des Moines, Iowa.
Youth Art Month is an annual celebration sponsored by AEI which examines the importance of the arts in education through the visual creations of students, directing attention to the value of communication and expressive skills learned through the arts.
