Thomas expects House to ignore proposed 6 percent Allowable Growth bill from Senate

The Iowa Senate has approved a plan for 6 percent Allowable Growth for the 2015-2016 school year.  But legislative observers say the Republican Party-controlled Iowa House has no plans to take up discussion of the Senate bill.  Elkader State Representative Roger Thomas is criticizing the Iowa House's lack of action, saying, "We owe it to our students, teachers, and parents to make sure schools have time to put together a plan that will make sure every student gets the skills needed to land a good job."  By state law, the Legislature is required to act to set future school funding within 30 days of the beginning of the legislative session.  Thomas says such a deadline gives school districts plenty of time to plan and use state resources effectively.
