Sheriff's Deputies warn of another scam

Posted: Wed, Feb 5, 2014 5:32 PM

Winneshiek County Sheriff's Deputies say the latest scam involves your cell phone.  The scammers program a computer to call your cell phone, but only ring once.

If you're curious about the phone number and return the call, the scammers will try to get you to think you're on hold--and then charge you $9.00 a minute for your call.

The Better Business Bureau says the calls are coming from Jamaica, Antigua, Grenada and the British Virgin Islands.  If someone thinks they may have fallen for this scam, they should immediately contact the cell phone carrier.
