Water Department: Be on the alert for freezing pipes

Posted: Wed, Jan 29, 2014 6:07 AM

The Decorah Water Department is reminding residents to monitor the water temperatures in their homes and businesses due to the extreme cold and frost depth.  If the water temperature falls below 40 degrees Fahrenheit, you may run the risk of frozen water lines.  Please call the Decorah Water Department at (563) 382-5171 for assistance with the problem.  Basements and crawl spaces must also be heated to prevent water line freezing.

The Decorah Water Department and Decorah Fire Department are asking that any residents who have a fire hydrant on or near their property to please shovel out and remove any snow from around the hydrant.  This will maintain access to the hydrant in the event of a fire in that area.  If you are unable to clean around the hydrants, please call (563)382-5171 for assistance.
