Decorah's bald eagles—made famous worldwide by the bald eagle webcam—are ready for prime time again.
Last year the eagles built a nest in a new location, meaning the web cameras pointed to an empty nest. But new cameras have been installed at the new nest, meaning Raptor Resource Project can switch back and forth between the new nest and old nest as needed.
Wondering when the Decorah eagles might begin laying eggs? That has ranged from February 17th to March 2nd in previous years, with the egg hatch beginning anywhere from March 25th to April 9th—35 days after the eggs were laid.
Raptor Resource Project Director Bob Anderson says, "One interesting thing that happened with last year's eaglets is that once they fledged from the new nest, all three eaglets and both adults moved over to the old nest and did not return to the new nest. This season they clearly are bringing nesting material to the new nest."
