Winneshiek County will pay the firm of Yaggy Colby up to $27,000 to update the county's zoning ordinances.
The last update was done in 2002--by Yaggy Colby. Supervisors unanimously approved a contract with the firm on Monday, stating several issues have come up since 2002 that are not fully addressed by the existing ordinances.
For instance, supervisors want the zoning ordinqnce update to contain language about frac sand mining. The company will provide supervisors with sample ordinances. Yaggy Colby has worked with Trempeleau County, Wisconsin--one of the centers of frac sand mining in the Midwest.
The update will also include new language about tourism and the use of property zoned A1 Agricultural. That issue has come to the front with discussion about campground zoning.
Yaggy Colby officials say they will complete the update by the end of 2014.
