Luther begins "Beyond the Bubble" seminars

Posted: Thu, Jan 16, 2014 6:25 PM

Students at Luther College often talk about "living in the bubble"—being in a self-contained college campus environment.  That has led Luther College officials to begin offering classes to help students get "Beyond the Bubble" by learning workplace skills and life skills—skills that will be needed after graduation.

The new program, which begins Tuesday, will have two tracks--Professional Development Seminars and Personal Development Seminars.  The three professional development seminars being offered on Tuesday afternoon will discuss communication skills; Internet search engine use; and Microsoft Excel basics.  The two personal development seminars on Tuesday evening will teach cooking skills and computer maintenance skills.

The seminars are being taught by Luther College staff members, Luther professors and Decorah community members.  Future seminars will discuss such topics as financial literacy, basic car maintenance and proper meal etiquette
