A growing number of people are working out of their homes as consultants or salespeople or Internet entrepreneurs. But having a home office can have its problems--it's not always best to use your kitchen table as an office.
A new business in Decorah called "Open Decorah" is responding by offering office space that can be shared by separate businesses. The space on the second and third floors of The Good Foot shoe store at 128 West Water Street, right in the heart of the Decorah downtown business district, will allow businesses to share Internet access, teleconferencing facilities, meeting rooms and other business resources.
"Open Decorah" is owned by Ross Hadley, who also is the owner of Amundson's Clothing. "Co-working allows business professionals a chance to pool resources and connect with other like-minded people," Hadley says.
He is holding an open house at the facility all day Tuesday--from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.--as well as free access the rest of the week.
Hadley says the office space is good for people working in sales, marketing, social media, advertising, graphic design and other business support roles.
"The collaborative workspace will also lead to increased networking and cross pollination of potential job opportunities," Hadley says. "Local businesses can increase their creative team without increasing staff."
