Volunteer Victim Advocate Training to start Wednesday

Posted: Mon, Jan 6, 2014 6:57 PM

Helping Services for Northeast Iowa on Wednesday will begin training sessions for people willing to be Volunteer Victim Advocates.

Volunteer Victim Advocates help answer the 24-hour crisis line at night, during the week or on the weekends; transport individuals or families to a safe place, a court appointment, or other locations; and respond to a crisis situation at a hospital or police department to comfort a victim and/or their children who have been abused.

The training will teach how to identify and properly respond to signs of domestic violence as a neighbor or a volunteer.

Sessions will run Mondays and Wednesdays from 9:00 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. January 8th, 13th, 15th, 20th, 22nd and 27th.  Each session will have two 15 minute breaks and an hour lunch break.

To RSVP or ask questions, please contact Volunteer Program Coordinator Teresa Dehning at tdehning@helpingservices.org or 1-800-383-2988.
