Our article about coyotes being spotted near Phelps Park in Decorah has brought comments from other city dwellers who have also spotted coyotes.
One out of town reader had an important comment, so we're passing along this note from Kay in California:
"(Your article) states that fences should be at least 6 feet tall (to protect dogs from coyotes). I know from experience, here in California, that coyotes can scale a 6-foot fence easily. No pet is safe outdoors at night. This includes cats and smaller dogs. We have had several small animal pets killed in our neighborhood by coyotes jumping 6-foot block walls.
