Decorah man injured in Clay Hill Road accident

Posted: Wed, Dec 25, 2013 9:40 PM

It was not a good Christmas eve for 43-year-old Robert Sims of Decorah.  He lost control of his truck on ice-covered gravel on Clay Hill Road north of Decorah around 3:15 Tuesday afternoon, entered a ditch and hit several trees.

The Decorah Fire department was called to the scene and used its Jaws of Life and rescue harness to take Sims from the truck.  He was then taken to Winneshiek Medical Center for a broken arm and broken leg.  Sims was then transferred to Mayo Hospital in Rochester for surgery, but his injuries were labeled "non-life threatening."

The Winneshiek County Sheriff's Department, Decorah Police Department, Decorah Fire Department, Winneshiek Medical Center Ambulance and Bill's Towing all responded to the accident.
