Winneshiek Medical Center to hold a beard contest

As part of its 100th anniversary observance, Winneshiek Medical Center is holding a beard growing contest as a way to honor William Smith, the man who donated $10,000 towards the cost of building the first hospital.

The "William Smith Beard Look-Alike Contest" will be held during the 2014 Winneshiek County Fair.  But, as a news release from the hospital notes, "Area men may need to get growing to compete in the July event."

The winner of the event will be the person the audience judges to look most like William Smith.  Registration is free.  There's a grand prize of $100.
