It's not just the Luther College men's and women's swim teams that are benefiting from the larger size of the pool at the Luther Aquatics Center.
Former Simpson College Interim Head Swimming Coach Eric Crawford has announced plans to leave the Des Moines area and move to Decorah. Crawford will begin holding practices for the Decorah Swim Club, a USA Swimming-certified club, on Monday, January 6th.
Crawford tells decorahnews.com that the new club "will compete against some of the best teams in the Midwest," including those in Cedar Rapids, Des Moines, Waterloo/Cedar Falls, Rochester and La Crosse. He believes the club will attract talented high school and college swimmers who need to swim year-round to improve their skills.
But it's not just expert swimmers who are invited to join the club. Crawford says the club will be open to anyone between the ages of 8 to 21 who is able to swim the length of the pool.
Swimming year-round will help swimmers of all skill levels. Says Crawford, "This is only going to improve them."
Registration can be done by visiting www.decorahswimclub.com or in-person on January 6th at 6:30 p.m. or 7:125 p.m. at the Luther Pool.
