The consulting firm hired to study a proposed recreation center in Decorah has recommended that the facility be built on the softball field across from Decorah City Hall.
Representatives from Design Alliance gave a presentation at Wednesday night's Park Board meeting, review seven potential sites for the rec center.
Decorah Park-Rec Director Andy Nimrod says the softball diamond "was easily the number one choice." The location in the center of town and near Decorah schools were seen as very attractive. Under the proposal, Claiborne Drive would be relocated to make room for the rec center.
Design Alliance presented a sketch of a building that would cost $9.6 million. Park-Rec Board members took no action on the proposal. They will need to consult with the Decorah City Council and with the public to determine what budget figure would be acceptable.
