New program urges people to shop locally

Each year local merchants stress the importance of shopping locally in order to strengthen the community.  That message is being repeated again this holiday season in Decorah--but with an interesting twist.

Fancy Pants in Decorah is taking part in a nationwide program called "Shift Your Shopping for Good," which features Kevin Bacon.

Bacon has recorded a video for the group in support of getting people to shop locally.  The "Shift Your Shopping" campaign encourages shoppers to take job creation and economic concerns into their own hands by exercising their power to strengthen their own local economies.

The campaign will not only stimulate local economic impact, but will allow Fancy Pants to give back 1 percent of each sale to nonprofit organizations of the customer's choosing, creating another kind of local impact.

The campaign runs from now until Christmas Eve.
