City of Decorah officials remind the public about sidewalk shoveling rules

With winter now upon us, the City of Decorah is issuing a reminder to the public about snow removal procedures.

City officials are reminding all property owners of their responsibility to promptly remove snow and ice accumulations from sidewalks along their property.

If property owners do not remove snow and ice within an appropriate time, the city has the ability to remove the snow and ice itself--and then bill property owners for all costs, including administrative fees.

Also, snow emergencies can be declared if Decorah receives a snowfall of one inch or more.  That means all vehicles should park on the even numbered side of the street until snow is cleared from the opposite side and then move to the odd numbered side of the street until the snow is cleared from the opposite half.

No vehicle may be parked for longer than 48 hours on city streets.  Violations are subject to ticketing and possible impoundment.
