The Council for Advancement and Support of Education and The Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching have named Northeast Iowa Community College science instructor Paul Kimball the 2013 Iowa Professor of the Year.
Kimball has taught science courses at NICC since 1990 and currently serves as science department chair. The instructor has received numerous honors for his academic work, including a Sigma Xi Scientific Research Society honor in 1994, a National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development Excellence in Teaching Award in 1995 and a Phi Beta Kappa International honor in 1998. In 1998, NICC awarded Kimball with the Extra Effort Award and Outstanding Educator Award.
Kimball's Iowa Professor of the Year recognition is the fourth awarded to an NICC faculty member in only 10 years. CASE gave the award to then science instructor Cheryl Donlon in 2003; to communications instructor James L. Brimeyer in 2005; and to dairy science instructor David Lawstuen in 2011.
