Americorps volunteers Andrew Larson and Adam Kruse recently spoke to the Decorah LIons Club about the efforts of the Winneshiek Energy District to increase residential energy efficiency in the county.

The organization offers testing and inspection of area homes to determine the steps needed to reduce energy waste and and decrease utility usage and bills. The testing is free to low and moderate income households and the program pays for half the cost of materials such as high efficiency light bulbs, plumbing fixtures and weatherization materials. Labor is free.

At this time the program has saved Winneshiek County residents more the $51,000 in utility costs.
