A fund drive has started for former Decorah resident Lisa Brainard, who was injured when she fell 26 feet from a bridge in September of last year while taking photos for the Preston, Minnesota Republican-Leader newspaper.

While she was in the hospital, recovering from those injuries, she suffered a stroke which further affected mobility.

Workers compensation insurance paid for much of her medical expenses, but there have been rehabilitation expenses that have not been covered by workers compensation insurance.

The "Lisa Brainard Recovery Fund" has been set up at the F&M Community Bank, 100 St. Anthony N., Preston, MInnesota.  Checks should be made out to the name of the fund.  Any donations can be sent by mail.

The funds collected will be used to purchase a recumbent trike that Brainard has been using during her rehabilitation.  The funds will also be used to buy a shed for the trike, to pay medical expenses, and to pay for computer modifications to allow her to return to work at the newspaper. Those who contribute are asked to leave their name so Brainard can thank them personally.

Throughout her struggles, she has kept her perspective.  Says Lisa, "I'm lucky to have survived it. I've escaped death twice."
