City of Decorah officials will try to draft standards for electronic signs

A special study committee will be put together to look into what standards ought to be adopted for electronic signs in the City of Decorah.

A work group of several members of the Planning & Zoning Commission and Decorah City Council, as well as industry representatives, will tackle the issue.

Decorah City Administrator Chad Bird says the technology of signs has changed faster than the language of the city's ordinance.  So new language must be drafted to regulate digital message board, including where they will be permitted and how they must operate.

Meanwhile, the city's Board of Adjustment has given its approval to a variance that will allow Decorah Lutheran Church to install an electronic sign.
