Decorah City Council member Rachel Vagts is resigning, due to an upcoming move to Berea, Kentucky.
Vagts is one of two city council members elected at large, representing the entire city. She won re-election to the seat in November of 2011.
Her resignation means the Decorah City Council will be asked again to fill a vacancy--the third time this year. City council members can make an appointment of someone to fill the position for the remaining two years of the term, or there can be a special election to fill the seat. The special election would cost roughly $3,000 to hold and would be held if either the city council or a petition drive decided the special election was the best option.
