School Board approves technology position and alters early retirement offer

The Decorah Community School Board has authorized Superintendent Mike Haluska to begin the next step in developing a position description and begin recruitment of new position to begin next fall. The position will be a Technology Integration Specialist and work with teachers on how to integrate technology into their day-to-day teaching.

In other business the Board approved a requested change by a district employee to the recently offered early retirement package. The revised early retirement program replaces the requirement of years of experience in "public school employment" with the provision that years of service required to be eligible for the early retirement package may now include work at "accredited non-public schools." The change has no negative financial impact for the district. The motivation for the early retirement package is to save the district money, so any additional approvals add to that savings.
