On Tuesday of this week, we said "State gasoline experts say it's quite possible that gas prices will fall below $3.00 a gallon later this year."
Three days later gasoline prices had fallen another seven cents per gallon and now stand at $2.99.
It's believed to be the first time since the fall of 2010 that gas prices were below the $3/gallon mark.
But Decorah's $2.99/gallon price on Friday was far from the lowest in the state. Many Des Moines area gas stations were selling $2.78/gallon gas, while several Quad Cities gas stations were selling $2.72/gallon gasoline.
