Winneshiek Medical Center's Affordable Care Act counselors have recieved "not a lot" of calls from the public

If you're confused about the Affordable Care Act, one of the places you can turn for help is Winneshiek Medical Center.

The hospital has "Certified Application Counselors," people trained in helping the public to understand the new health care law.  WMC Chief Administrative Officer Gretchen Dahlen says "there's just so much to learn" for the public.

But the hospital has added information to its website that includes a subsidy calculator.  People can go to the web page and enter information to find out how much health insurance would cost and how much financial help they would qualify for.

Dahlen says the hospital's Certified Application Counselors haven't been busy so far, however.  Part of that could be from the publicity about the problems with www.healthcare.gov.  She presented information Wednesday to the WMC Board that says only 3 percent of those qualified for the new health insurance have enrolled nationwide.
