The so-called "off year" elections normally do not attract high voter turnouts. Tuesday's election in the eight cities in Winneshiek County was no exception.
There are a total of 8,663 registered voters in Calmar, Castalia, Decorah, Fort Atkinson, Jackson Junction, Ossian, Ridgeway and Spillville. On Tuesday 2,143 of them went to the polls.
That's a turnout of 24.7 percent. The City of Decorah, which has 6,850 voters, had a 24.1 percent turnout. Ridgeway was low, with a turnout of 21.4 percent, while Jackson Junction was high--21 out of 36 registered voters cast a ballot, giving them a 58.3 percent turnout.
