First frost came late this fall

Decorah's first "official" frost (a low of 32 or less) occurred on October 13th this year. Decorah weather observer Richard Bernatz says that's unusual.

Only twelve of 118 years (since records begin) have a first frost this late into the fall.

The latest date for an official low temperature of 32 or less for Decorah is October 30th. That happened the fall of 1973.
