State of Iowa issues quarantine in Winneshiek County to stop the spread of the Emerald Ash Borer

The Iowa Department of Agriculture has issued a quarantine in Winneshiek County to help prevent the spread of the Emerald Ash Borer.

Articles regulated under the quarantine include the actual Emerald Ash Borers inany living state; entire ash trees; firewood of any hardwood species; any cutor fallen material of the ash; non-heat treated ash lumber with either bark orsapwood attached; and hardwood wood or bark chips larger than one inch in twodimension.

The quarantine orders that the regulated articles cannot bemoved from a county included in the quarantine unless a permit has been issuedby either the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship or USDAAnimal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) or if the article has beentreated to exterminate any pests under the supervision of USDA and the IowaDepartment of Agriculture and Land Stewardship.

In addition to Winneshiek County, other counties included in the quarantine are Allamakee, Fayette, Clayton, Buchanan, Delaware, Dubuque, Linn, Jones, Jackson,Clinton, Johnson, Cedar, Scott, Keokuk, Washington, Muscatine, Louisa, Wapello,Jefferson, Henry, Des Moines, Davis, Van Buren and Lee.
