The Trout Run Trail has cost around $7 million to build. Most of that cost has been paid through donations and grants.
However, Decorah City Administrator Chad Bird says those funds have not covered all of the costs.
Originally it was estimated that there would be a $240,000 income shortfall for the project. Now Bird says that shortfall probably will be $358,000.
It is expected that the funds will come from the hotel/motel tax revenues for Decorah. Since the tax collections are generated by tourism and the construction of the trail has increased tourism, it's felt the hotel/motel tax fund would be the most appropriate funding source.
The Decorah City Council is expected to tackle the issue November 18th.
