Halloween isn't always nice to black cats

Posted: Wed, Oct 30, 2013 7:21 PM

Black cats often endure abuse and severe mistreatment around Halloween, says the Humane Society of Northeast Iowa.  Cat abuse takes place in many different forms during this time of year. Recently, HSNEI learned of a cat that appear to have been dyed (see picture)  HSNEI Cat Foster Coordinator Deb Morris says the black cat was dyed brown.  Hair dye products that are made for humans contain harmful toxins and chemicals. These chemicals can be especially dangerous when used on animals if the animal licks its fur, as cats do very frequently. It is vital that the public be aware of this phenomenon, as it is extremely prevalent in October.
