first on decorahnews.com: Signs are going up on Trout Run Trail urging hunters and trail users alike to "Share the Resource"

When Trout Run Trail was built, portions of it were run through property owned by the Iowa DNR--property that had been acquired by the State for hunting and fishing grounds.  That means the trail can be used not only by bike riders, but by hunters heading toward the DNR property to hunt.

Wednesday morning, members of the 28E Committee which controls Trout Run Trail had a lengthy discussion about making sure both bike riders and hunters can use the trail safely--especially during gun deer season.

The Winneshiek County Conservation Board has purchased 12 signs to be placed along rural portions of the Trout Run Trail, signs that remind everyone to "Share the Resource."

Trails of Winneshiek board member Mike Huinker wondered if it wouldn't be better to shut down the rural portions of Trout Run Trail during deer hunting season.  28E Committee member Ray Torresdal suggested putting up sawhorses on parts of the trail that had signs that said "Hunting Season: Travel at Your Own Risk."

Winneshiek County Conservation Executive Director Barb Schroeder says she will check with County Attorney Andy Van Der Maaten for his advice about such warning signs.

However, the 12 signs asking people to "Share the Resource" are being put up starting Wednesday.
