Pastels and paintings by Mount Vernon, Iowa, artist Susan Coleman will be on display starting Monday in Preus Library on the Luther College campus.
The exhibit, "Points of Departure in the Landscape," is open to the public with no charge for admission.
The artist says her goal is to go beyond the merely scenic aspect of landscape. "Through drawing and painting within the open-ended themes of landscape I cultivate awareness of my own inner wildness, as it echoes the wider world," she said.
Coleman has earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in drawing from Webster University, a Master of Arts degree in drawing and a Master of Fine Arts degree in painting from the University of Iowa. She has taught at the University of Northern Iowa, Kirkwood Community College and Dartmouth College. Coleman currently serves as gallery coordinator and lecturer in art at Cornell College.
